EVEN
THOUGH the president, Andrés Manuel López Obrador, requested that Mara Elena
Hermelinda Lezama, municipal president of the Benito Juárez municipality
(Cancún), be investigated for the complaint filed by the civil association Opus
Magnum of Mexico, before the Specialized Attorney's Office in Organized Crime
Investigation (SEIDO), for the commission of the crime for alleged operations
with resources of illicit origin
Mayor
Lezama, during her daily COVID-19 reporting program, after allegations of
corruption she faces for the purchase of real estate through a company created
by her family commented:
"These
are times when we must not fight or be attentive to unfounded attacks, because
it must be said, in the midst of the crisis there are always those who want us
to be shipwrecked"
On July 1,
the communicator became the second woman to lead the municipality (Magaly
Achach Solís, 1999-2002), after obtaining a figure of 191 thousand 198 votes
under the acronym Morena-PT, almost 100 thousand than his predecessor Remberto
Estrada, from the PRI-Green Party coalition, who won at the height of Borgismo.
For almost
two years at the helm of the municipality, violence continues to increase in
Cancun, despite the fact that the state is semi paralyzed and the population in
confinement due to the health emergency caused by the coronavirus, there are
illegal activities that do not rest.
The mayor
has surpassed the records of her two predecessors in executions, kidnappings,
business robberies, among other crime rates.
